Offseason Notes:

We will work harder than any other team in the offseason. Players will be challenged on a daily basis to put forth an optimal effort, and to consistently elevate their performance level during workouts.

There will be three days of conditioning/fitness exercises offered every week (Mon/Wed/Thurs) leading up to the start of tryouts next year.  EVERY player is expected to participate in AT LEAST two of the three workout days. There will also be opportunities to get touches on the ball during these sessions (and potential game play). Workouts will last 1.5 hrs. Any players interested in attending all three sessions in a week are encouraged to do so.

The days and times will be as follows:

Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays 3:30-5

When the weather cooperates, we will plan to train outside and utilize the stadium field. During the winter months, we will work on the bleachers, and in the gym and weight room area.

Competition for roster spots on next year’s Varsity/JV soccer teams will be higher than it has ever been. We have a strong level of talent in the program right now. Overall, this is a very good thing as it shows we are improving and will allow us to be more competitive moving forward. On the other hand, it is evidence that you must work hard in the offseason if you want to make next year’s team.

No one is guaranteed a roster spot from their play in previous years. ( Just because you played Varsity soccer this season does not mean you are guaranteed a spot on next season’s team). Every player on next year’s Varsity or JV roster must earn their spot. The top 23 guys will make next year’s Varsity team (regardless of what year in school you are). The next 23 will make next year’s JV team.

There will be a lot of opportunities to improve your fitness/strength/skill throughout the offseason. It is up to you to take advantage of it.

2016 soccer tryouts will be extremely rigorous and feature high intesnity workouts/play. Players will be judged on a variety of things including: Technique, Tactics, Attitude, and Physical Conditioning.

Every 2015 Varsity soccer player must be able to:

-Run 1 mile under 6:30

-Run 2 miles under 13:00

-Run 3 miles under 21:00

-Run continuously for 7 miles without stopping

-Run a ½ mile in 2:45

-Juggle the ball in the air 50 times without the ball dropping

Every 2015 JV soccer  player must be able to:

-Run 1 mile under 7:30

-Run 2 miles under 15:00

-Run 3 miles under 23:00

-Run continuously for 5 miles without stopping

-Run a ½ mile in 3:30

-Juggle the ball in the air 25 times without ball dropping

In addition, all players must:

-Have perfected at least 3 dribbling moves

-Have mastered the following: wall pass (give/go), overlap, take over

-Have gained a basic understanding of the 3-5-2, 4-3-3, and 4-4-2 soccer formations

-Have a strong knowledge of these defense concepts: 1. Man-Marking v Zone Marking 2. Pressure, Cover, Balance  3. Proper Defensive Stance / 1 v 1 Defending

All players will be given a play book during the offseason with set piece plays in regards to corner kicks, free kicks, and throw ins. Players are responsible for learning these plays and being familiar with them prior to the start of the season.
